Let me introduce you to Icefield Discovery’s Pilatus Porter. This legendary turbine-engine machine can carry up to 1,000 kg of cargo or seven passengers. Icefield Discovery will be operating on wheel skis and focusing on safe, affordable access to Kluane National Park and the St. Elias Mountains. The per-person rate for the most popular Logan Glacier Landing Tour will be $475 per person for the 2025 season.
Bringing this aircraft into the Kluane area would not have been possible without the support of Kluane Dana Shaw LP. It has been a two-year project to bring together a matrix of grants and loans to acquire this plane. Icefield Discovery is very grateful to the team at Tourism Yukon, who manage the Community Tourism Destination Development Fund and have shown steady commitment throughout the project. Yukon Economic Development is also a significant contributor to this business expansion. CanNor is assisting with a favorable loan. Yukon I&E has provided access to financial advice. It’s very rewarding to reach the action phase of the project.
Icefield Discovery is excited to have this plane here in time to celebrate the International Year of Glaciers and the 100th anniversary of the first ascent of Mt. Logan. We celebrate this along with Kluane First Nation, whose traditional territory includes these remote mountains. The people who have always lived here know the importance of glaciers to our freshwater supply and the hazards that accompany living in close proximity to the ice fields. We are working together to respectfully appreciate the power of these mountains.
For 2025, we have a busy mountaineering season, with people coming from all over the world to climb Logan and other icy giants of the St. Elias. We still have some space for Icefield Discovery Camp four-day trips in June and July. And we’ll be doing flightseeing trips with glacier landings every day from now into the fall.
